When “Flash” was replaced with “There Edge”, the things which were formerly Flash Controls – like the FunFinder, Shortcut Bar, ChangMe, and Message Bar – became like little web pages embedded in the There Client. To do this There Edge uses a standard Microsoft component called “WebView2”, which is kind of like a tiny Microsoft Edge Browser.

While this has worked well most of the time, Microsoft has recently made some updates which have broken There and other people’s applications which use WebView. For example, the issue with the There Client hangings or otherwise mis-behaving under Windows 11 is tied to WebView.

Tip: Check to make sure you have the most recent Windows 11 update. Go to Settings>Windows Update. Check to make sure you have Windows 11, version 24H2. If you don’t have the most recent version do an update and restart your computer. It’s also helpful to turn the “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available” to ON.

Unfortunately, a Microsoft Edge update on February 6th appears to have triggered a new problem – the WebView is there, it’s just not visible. This is what’s been causing the “endless message sounds” bug – the message bar is there, you just can’t see it.  

We are trying to find a solution to this problem which is, well, problematic since it’s Microsoft Edge that’s broken, not There Edge or the There Client. We’ve had some success with maximizing the client to full screen, but only some of the time.

We will keep working on this and will inform the community as soon as we have more information.
