There Alpha 2.5.25887 Ready for Testing on macOS

Welcome to the 17th Version of the There Alpha!

Since this is an Alpha test there will very likely be bugs, in fact, it may not work at all!

Please, please, if you get a crash, please send us your There.log. Right now, the MacOS version isn’t cool enough to automatically send us the logs.

Here are the instructions:

Sorry it’s been a while since the last release. We turned on Shoutcast support and that took a bit longer than anticipated.

  1. ShoutCast / Music Boxes / BoomBoxes / etc support turned on!

We’re excited to announce we’ve got Shoutcast support working for MacOS!

By default, when you start up, “Music Playing” is OFF, and you will have to turn it on to hear music.

We set it this way so that if it turns out to be crashy, you won’t end up in a situation when you log on and immediately crash because you’re next to a Music Box.

We don’t support “3D” sound yet, but we do support stereo.

Please try it out and let us know how it works for you!

  1. Fixed a nasty bug which made action tags either not work, or work unpredictably when you clicked them. This occurred when there was a There Edge component like the shortcut bar, IM Window, etc., on the screen.
  2. Improved (or, tried to improve) handling with Action Mode enable. This should help your paintball skillzzzz!

Thank you for your participation! We value your time and efforts.

To test this app, open TestFlight on your Mac running macOS 14.0 or later and install the update.

Build Your Own Virtual Haunted House in There.com

Creating a virtual haunted house in There.com can be a fun and spooky way to get into the Halloween spirit or just create a unique themed space for socializing. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to build your own haunted house in the game.

Step 1: Choose Your Location

The first step in building a haunted house is selecting the perfect plot of land. There.com offers a variety of terrains and environments that can serve as the eerie backdrop for your haunted mansion or creepy cabin. Build your own PortaZone in a remote area or join a Neighborhood or ThereHouse community and live amongst friends. Remote islands off the coast of Comet or Aurora can give off a sense of isolation and mystery. The barren landscape of the desert in Sirocco add a desolate and eerie vibe. The dense trees and overgrown foliage in Cangrejo can enhance the spooky atmosphere. The dark and mysterious land of Tabu is home to Mahalloween Town a friendly themed Neighborhood that is accepting new spooky tenants.

One of the best parts of having neighbors nearby when building your haunted house in There.com during Halloween is the added sense of community and fun it brings. Building near neighbors makes trick-or-treating extra special and enjoyable. When you’re surrounded by other players who are also in the Halloween spirit, it creates an immersive and festive atmosphere. Everyone can contribute their own spooky decorations, which transforms the entire neighborhood into a Halloween wonderland. Neighbors can sync up their haunted house themes, creating spooky streets filled with haunted mansions, eerie graveyards, and ghostly forests.

Step 2: Plan Your Design

Decide on the style of your haunted house before you start placing items. Do you want a classic Victorian-style haunted mansion, a decaying forest cabin, a spooky graveyard or an abandoned hotel? Search the Halloween Auctions for inspiration and find the perfect dwelling to decorate.

Ghostly Graveyard: To take your outdoor haunted space in There.com to the next level, adding gravestones, crypts, and skeletal trees can transform your virtual yard into a chilling, spooky graveyard. These eerie elements will immerse visitors in a haunted atmosphere from the moment they step onto your property. Use different shapes and sizes for your gravestones to make the space feel authentic. Add weathered, cracked stones for an older, abandoned look.

Haunted House: Building a two-story haunted mansion in There.com is a great way to evoke the eerie, mysterious atmosphere of classic haunted houses. With intricate details and clever use of space, you can create a multi-level dwelling that feels imposing and filled with ghostly secrets.

Creepy Cabin: Building a creepy cabin in There.com is the perfect way to create a spooky, abandoned atmosphere with a rustic charm. A simple, worn-down structure with broken windows and a crooked roof can capture the essence of an eerie, forgotten place.

Abandoned Buildings: Taking your Halloween-themed builds in There.com to the next level by creating abandoned hotels, medical centers, and immersive vortex tunnels will give visitors an unforgettable and chilling experience. Each structure can be filled with eerie details, unexpected surprises, and creepy atmospheres that set a dark, haunted tone.

Step 3: Get Indoor and Outdoor Building Items

In There.com, you’ll need to gather various objects to bring your haunted house to life. Shop the Halloween Auctions for the latest spooky decorations and furniture created by our talented Designers. Think about each element needed to bring your indoor and outdoor space together to give your visitors goosebumps and provide that haunted house experience.

Outdoor Decorations: Outdoor decorations are crucial for setting the spooky scene around your haunted house. By strategically placing tombstones, pumpkins, ghostly figures, witches and more, you can create a creepy atmosphere that instantly puts visitors in a haunted mood.

Fog and Mist: Adding a rolling fog around the cabin, especially near the porch and under the windows, can give the scene a supernatural feel, like the cabin itself is hidden away. Utilize fog and mist to make certain areas look shrouded in mystery, like graveyards or the entrance to the house.

Dark Forest or Swamp: Place the cabin deep in a dense, dark forest or near a swamp. This adds to the isolation and makes it feel like something dangerous might be lurking just beyond the trees.

Pumpkin Patch: Building your own virtual pumpkin patch in There.com is a great way to bring a festive atmosphere to your space. Whether you want a cozy farm-like setting or a spooky, haunted pumpkin patch for Halloween, the flexibility of decorations available in the Auctions allows for endless creative possibilities.

Lighting: Use dim, flickering lights, candles, and lanterns to create an eerie ambiance. Some players even use Insta-Lites from Shop Central, like green, purple, red or orange to add a supernatural effect.

Unsettling Sounds: Shop the Sound Systems in Shop Central to add some spooky music to your ambiance. Tune into Mahalo Radio Haunted Hits for your favorite Halloween songs.

Furniture: To amplify the haunted atmosphere in your spooky build, using the right furniture is essential. Tattered and antique pieces evoke an eerie, unsettling vibe, making the space feel like it has been long abandoned. Look for gothic furniture, rocking chairs, or antique furnishings to enhance the haunted vibe.

Step 4: Add the Spooky Details

It’s all in the details! Adding a few unsettling touches can make your haunted house truly immersive. The fine details are what bring a haunted house or any spooky environment to life, creating a truly terrifying experience. When building in There.com, these small, unsettling touches will make your visitors feel as if they’ve stepped into a haunted world. Below you’ll find some specific details you can add to make your haunted house unforgettable.

Creepy Dolls or Clowns: Place old, creepy dolls or toys around the cabin, as if they were left behind by a long-gone family. Dolls with cracked faces or missing eyes will add a spooky touch.

Scary Figures: Place ghosts, skeletons, witches, and ghouls throughout your house. You can find interactive items in the Halloween Auctions that will pop-out when motion is detected to add to the spooky ambiance.

Rats or Crows: You can add small animals like rats scurrying through the corners or crows sitting on the roof. These animals create the impression that nature has started to take over.

Step 5: Host a Haunted Event

Once your haunted house is complete, consider hosting an event for other Thereians to explore your creepy creation.

  • Haunted House Tours: Guide friends or other players through your spooky creation. You can add stories or spooky lore to each room.
  • Costume Parties: Invite people to wear their scariest or funniest costumes while exploring your haunted space.
  • Scavenger Hunts: Hide objects or clues around your haunted house and challenge visitors to find them with a fun quest.

Step 6: Take Photos and Share

Once your haunted house is up and running, take photos or videos and share them with the There.com community or on social media. Show off your creativity, and maybe even inspire others to build their own haunted house! Follow There.com on Facebook and tag us in your photos so we can share them to our page. Happy Halloween and join us in There.com for 31 days of Festival of Frights!
