20 Years of Peace, Love & OurStock
OurStock has a colorful history that stretches all the way back to 2006, during the early days of There.
Longtime members may remember ThereStock, a company-sponsored hippie-themed celebration that inspired the creation of a community-run tradition. Back then, a spirited debate arose over altering the official There.com logo during the event. The company maintained that its logo could not be altered in this way, leading to some lively discussions in the old community Forums.
Rather than let the disagreement dampen their enthusiasm, a group of determined Thereians decided to do their own thing. And just like that, OurStock was born!
What began as a community-driven alternative grew into a beloved annual tradition. Twenty years later, OurStock continues to bring Thereians together through music, creativity, friendship, and a shared appreciation for the free-spirited hippie lifestyle.
Through it all, the heart of OurStock has remained the same: a celebration created by the community, for the community.
Hippie Islands: A Groovy Place to Call Home
Every great gathering needs a place to call home, and there’s no better setting for OurStock than the legendary Hippie Islands Neighborhood.
Founded by Zip in December 2005, Hippie Islands is one of There’s oldest and most enduring Neighborhood communities. Its journey began on Comet Island, where a small group of like-minded Thereians created a colorful little haven of their own.
On December 31, 2005, the community packed up its virtual belongings and relocated to an island northeast of Kansas Island. There, Hippie Islands continued to grow and flourish until March 2009, when the community purchased a private island off the coast of Aurora.
The island remained their home until the closure of There.com in March 2010. But you can’t keep a good hippie down!
When the Virtual World reopened in 2012, the Hippie Islands community returned, reclaimed its beloved island, and brought its groovy gathering place back to life.
Created by hippies, for hippies, Hippie Islands has always been more than just a Neighborhood. It’s a place where friendships have lasted decades, creativity runs wild, and the spirit of community continues to thrive.
Now, more than two decades after its founding, Hippie Islands is rolling out the welcome mat once again as headquarters for the 20th anniversary of OurStock!
